Waletex coated glass tape is asbestos-free and features a silicate mineral composition coating which helps increase the temperature resistance by 10 times or more over that of uncoated glass tapes. This tape offers flame resistance up to 2000° F with continuous use temperatures from 1500° F to 1800° F. Most conventional glass tapes can only be used at temperatures up to 1000° F. This is a non-adhesive tape, so is meant to be sewn or glued onto base material. Can be sewn around tong ends for heat resistance, using kevlar thread available at most craft stores.
In a torch test, a .066″ thick sample withstood a direct flame (approximately 2000° F) for 30 minutes before beginning to burn through. The combination of increased temperature resistance and strength means a longer working life and can be used for a wide range of applications.
Sold in 12″ increments (in one solid strip, when possible).
GREAT for covering tongs or other tools used to handle hot glass. Literally hundreds of applications in a hot shop.
