This is a 2 day workshop, with Martin Cheek, world renowned mosaic artist from the UK! Martin has been making mosaics for over 30 years, has 7 best-selling books and pioneered the technique of fused glass mosaics! This is a class you do NOT want to miss!
Create a fun and creative mosaic piece that is FULL of personality! No experience required and everything will be provided for you (see below in bold for what that includes).
Martin Cheek is famous for using his own hand-made glass fusions in his mosaic artwork. He is a master of this process and will have on hand, hundreds of fused glass pieces to choose from that you can experiment with in your own creations during this workshop.
You will receive approx 4oz ($30 value) of Martin's fusions with your class fee, and he will have additional fusions available for purchase during class. The variety and colors of glass available may vary, so if you have colors you know you'll want, bring them. All supplies will be included in the cost, but you are welcome to bring small unique items to be placed in the piece, like your own fusions or other items to personalize your mosaic. We will be working on a 12"x12" substrate during this class.
During the workshop, we will be working with various materials including stained glass, vitreous glass, millefiori, and Martin’s own hand-made fusions to create pieces full of texture, dimension, originality and color. Using examples of Martin’s own work, he will show you how the various materials affect your finished piece.
No matter what your experience is with mosaic art, Martin addresses each student at his or her level of experience from beginner to beyond.
The course will consist of hands-on work creating your mosaic pieces, PLUS practical demonstrations, slide-show presentations, and individual instruction, all of which are aimed to ensure that each student learns the art of creating mosaics and discovers their own unique style along the way!
Glass cutting, shaping techniques, design elements and techniques will be covered. **A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF HAND STRENGTH IS REQUIRED WHEN WORKING WITH GLASS MOSAICS. IF YOU FEEL THIS COULD BE A CONCERN FOR YOU (ie. hand tremor or arthritis) PLEASE CONTACT US BEFORE REGISTERING FOR THE CLASS.
